JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION & TITLE: Volunteer at the Albany County Bar Association ACBA SUPERVISOR: Barbara Davis, Executive Director

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Association was established in 1900 and our program includes Monthly Continuing Legal Education Seminars, Lawyers Referral Service, Law Day Public Information Program, Annual Dinner for the Members of the Court of Appeals, Monthly Newsletters, an Annual Memorial Service, Annual Golf Outing and Annual Steak Roast.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. A minimum of 100 hours (RSSW 290 & 390) or 60 hours (RSSW 291) per semester will be required of the person selected. However, in accordance with University internship requirements for credit application the minimum amount of time to be served may be adjusted vis - a vis university policy.

2. The person selected will be responsible for answering phones for the Lawyer Referral Service. This service deals with the public in that an attorney is recommended who specializes in their individual needs.

3. The intern will be responsible for the copies made and sent to the different committees as necessary.

4. The assistance of the intern will be necessary in the preparation and organization of the different functions that take place annually as well as Monthly Education Programs, Luncheons and Newsletters.

5. The intern should expect to have relations with the attorneys as well as the public. The intern will be passing on the information that is requested by the attorney concerning the different functions and meetings that arise.

6. General office work is expected of the intern. Typing and filing duties will be necessary.

7. The intern will be expected to deliver and run errands as necessary.

INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES: The objective of this voluntary internship experience is to gain an understanding of the workings of a Bar Association office and its dealings with the public and the attorneys. This program is to provide a better understanding of the various law related problems. It is also hoped that the student selected for this position will gain a more detailed understanding of the different areas of law and its processes.
