JOB DESCRIPTION

 POSITION & TITLE:           Volunteer at the Albany County Bar Association

 ACBA SUPERVISOR:       Barbara Davis, Executive Director

 GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

             The Association was established in 1900 and our program includes Monthly Continuing Legal Education Seminars, Lawyers Referral Service, Law Day Public Information Program, Annual Dinner for the Members of the Court of Appeals, Monthly Newsletters, an Annual Memorial Service, Annual Golf Outing and Annual Steak Roast.

 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 1.         This ongoing Internship program is open to Junior, Senior, Undergraduates in a Business or Marketing major.

 2.         A minimum of 100 hours or 60 hours per semester will be required of the person selected.  A set time schedule will be made as to accommodate the students docket as well as the Bar Association hours.  The internship will run in the Fall and Spring; from September to December and from January until May, respectively,  as per the school calendar.  However, in accordance with University internship requirements for credit application the minimum amount of time to be served may be adjusted vis - a vis university policy.

 3.         The person selected will be responsible for marketing the Upcoming Continuing Legal Education Programs to different public organizations, attorneys and law firms in the Capital District. 

 4.         The assistance of the intern will be necessary in the preparation and organization of the different Education Program materials as necessary.

 5.         The intern should expect to have relations with the attorneys as well as the public.  The intern will be passing on the information that is requested by the attorney concerning the different functions that arise.

 INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES:

             The objective of this voluntary internship experience is to gain a detailed understanding of the different programs promoted by the Bar Association office and procedures necessary in marketing them to the public and the attorneys.  They will learn how to successfully market a program and learn effective communication skills.
