Position: Serves at the pleasure of the Albany County Bar Association (ACBA) Board of Directors
ACBA seeks to hire on a part-time basis an experienced attorney to oversee legal services performed under ACBA’s pro bono program. The attorney will be report to the Executive Director (ED) of ACBA.
This position is located in Albany, NY and will require moderate travel and a schedule that may occasionally extend beyond normal work day hours.
Responsibilities:
• Appear in court, primarily Family Court and represent indigent parties, primarily in domestic family proceedings
• Oversee the work of other attorney volunteers in pro bono activities
• Provide updates on pro bono activities to the Board of Directors.
• Prepare and present annual budget to the Board of Directors for adoption.
• Review ACBA policies, by-laws, and procedures on a regular basis to ensure compliance with same and with the mission of the ACBA.
• Assist in grant reporting and recordkeeping services/tracking for the ACBA’s multiple governmental grants
• Assist in applying for grants for pro bono services
• Draft articles on ACBA’s pro bono activities for the Association’s monthy newsletter
Requirements and Qualifications:
• Juris Doctorate degree or equivalent
• Admitted to practice in New York State
• Maintain CLE and other requirements for practice in New York State
• Five years post-bar experience
• Family Court experience
• Experience handling pro bono matters
• Experience in overseeing/managing the work of other attorneys
• Experience in applying/tracking expenditures of government grant money
• Experience with Quickbooks or other similar accounting software
• Able to conduct legal research
• Not-for-profit association experience desired.
• Knowledge of technology/website management/social media is desireable.
• Knowledge of issues facing the legal profession is desirable.
• Self-motivated, creative, strong interpersonal skills.
• Strong computer and word processing skills required.
• Ability to work and drive to courts in Albany County is essential.
PART-TIME ATTORNEY OF THE ALBANY COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION
The Albany County Bar Association (The ACBA) seeks to hire a qualified individual to serve as a Part-time attorney. Number of hours per week is negotiable. The ACBA is a 501 (c) (6) corporation representing attorneys residing in or practicing in Albany County, New York. Its office is in Albany, NY. The purpose of the ACBA is to promote professional collegiality among the bench and bar; facilitate public service and access to justice for all; and, offer programs, benefits and services to enhance the skills of its members. It has an active grant-funded pro bono service program and a foundation which supports its charitable initiatives.
Position Summary
The part-time attorney will be responsible for providing pro bono services to qualified individuals, overseeing the work of attorney volunteers, and carrying out the goals, mission and vision of the ACBA. The part-time attorney will report to the Executive Director and will serve at the discretion of the ACBA Board of Directors.
This position is located in Albany, NY and will require moderate travel and a schedule that may extend beyond normal work day hours for attendance at meetings and events.
Experience and Qualifications
Admitted to practice in New York state. Five years post-bar experience. Participation in not-for-profit, legal, or bar association is a plus. Experience in Family Court and/or on pro bono matters is a plus. Knowledge of technology/website management/social media is a desirable. Knowledge of issues facing the legal profession is desirable.
Juris Doctorate degree or equivalent is required. The ideal candidate with be self-motivated, creative, and have strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work and drive within Albany County, NY is essential.
